Meet The Doctor
Dr. Tate L. Viehweg is originally from northern Utah. He attended high school at Viewmont, in Bountiful. He graduated in with High Honors in 1990. He completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Utah in 1997, where he spent the majority of his time on the Dean’s List. Dr. Viehweg received his DMD degree in 2001 from The University of Alabama-Birmingham, graduating with Honors.

In 2005, Dr. Viehweg completed the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he gained extensive knowledge and experience in treating head and neck pathology, including cancer, reconstruction of the face and neck, as well as the treatment of severe facial trauma. This advanced training was in conjunction with a rigorous curriculum of dental implant placement and wisdom tooth removal. Facial cosmetic surgery, jaw corrective surgery, and training in general anesthesia was a significant part of this training as well. 

Following his residency, Dr. Viehweg was appointed to a faculty position at Madigan Army Medical Center; Ft. Lewis, Washington. Dr. Viehweg served for three years on active duty in the United States Army, training residents in advanced surgical techniques in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency. During his active duty service, he served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, spending six months at the Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad. For his part, Dr. Viehweg was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service. In July of 2008, Dr. Viehweg separated from the Army having earned the rank of Major. 

Several of Dr. Viehweg’s studies and case reports have been featured in his specialty’s peer reviewed publications, including the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Viehweg practices exclusively in Lehi, Utah, where his practice has been open since November of 2008. His practice is limited to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He also continues to extensively take advanced training in various aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery which includes: trauma, anesthesia, reconstruction, congenital deformities, facial cosmetics, and dental implants.
